Lyrical dance uses the techniques of ballet and jazz dance with gesture and pantomime to tell a story through movement. In lyrical dance, the choreographer uses the words and emotion of the music as an inspiration for movement. The dancer uses the movement and performance quality to express the emotion and story of the song. This list features skills that dance teachers should consider teaching in lyrical dance classes. Because lyrical dance is similar to contemporary, modern, and other dance styles, there are many different ways to approach lyrical classes. You may that you have more to add to the list, or that some of the skills don't fit your approach.
